Braiding the Essence of Nature as a Human Right

I've been a student leader for 4 consecutive years, and undoubtedly, environmentalism was one of my platforms every time. Maybe this is why I even considered majoring in environmental science in college. One thing I noticed is that people don't really realize and grasp the reality of how mind-complex climate impacts are gonna be. The earth is on its death bed—forests are on fire, and full cities will soon be underwater. Climate change is not a joke— and we have little to no time left until its effects become irreversible.

Living like a billionaire is actually expensive for the Earth. The unsustainable carbon footprint of private aircraft, yachts, and those obviously mandatory space missions significantly beyond that of the typical citizen. However, putting aside the enormous vanity projects, billionaires rank among the world's greatest pollutants due to their position as the beneficiaries of an unfair economic system. A 2022 Oxfam analysis states that 125 of the richest billionaires in the world emit more carbon than the average individual in the lowest 90% of the economic spectrum, with investments accounting for a solid 50–70% of these billionaires' emissions. According to the analysis, the total yearly emissions from their investments equals the carbon emissions of France, a nation of 67 million people. This glaring contrast demonstrates that, in order to be productive, any meaningful discussion about climate justice must focus on the disproportionate power of the superrich.

It's eye-opening and heavy learning about how rich people are gutting this planet for all she's worth. Unsurprisingly, this large impact that billionaires have done against the environment cannot be reduced in such a short time, but that's not where we should lose hope. You can make a meaningful difference in the environment by simply throwing your contact lenses in the trash instead of the sink, deleting old emails, rinsing out plastic bottles and cups and keeping the caps on before you recycle them, and many more. By simply collecting the trash around the school, you can make a significant change.

The state of the climate is getting worse every day. Even while the above-discussed natural processes have a harmful effect on the climate that we cannot control, we may take steps to lessen the impact of human activities that have recently produced considerable climate change. It is necessary to limit human activity that pollutes the air, land, and water because this will eventually have a negative impact on the climate. We all need to play a part in managing this worldwide problem by embracing sustainable habits, cutting back on carbon emissions, and giving environmental preservation top priority. We can work toward a sustainable future for our planet and all of its inhabitants by coming together to tackle this challenge.

Environmental justice is human justice.
