Dear President Marcos,

I'm writing this letter to you with utmost courage and concern for our country and countrymen. As a citizen, I wanted to reach out and share some thoughts on issues that are important to many of us, including the future holders of our homeland, the youth.

First, I want to commend your subtle efforts in acknowledging the challenges posed by some particular issues and working toward recovery. It is just right for you to create programs for our agriculture production. You lauded as you took your vow in the continuous elevation of the condition of farmers through mechanization and modernization towards food sufficiency during your second State of Nation Address on July 24, 2023, which was way back last year. However, I haven't seen much of your receipts on this program, which makes me doubt the attainability of the said plan. Indeed, the efficiency of this is greatly encouraged, but we wonder where the transparency is in regards to it. Considering that this was over a year ago, the plans would have been surfaced now.

I’d also like to emphasize the importance of investing in education and skills training for our youth. Empowering the next generation is vital for our country's welfare and for their own success and accomplishment. The youth in our generation no longer bats an eye on serious issues, especially when it comes to history.

September 21, 1972 is a rather familiar date, a day of remembrance. September 21, 2024 marks the 52nd year since Martial Law was declared. Though it may seem like it happened, ages ago, and even if it wasn't my generation who directly suffered those unleashed waves of trauma, we're here to commemorate and honor those who were forced to sacrifice on that turbulent and painful memory. We never forget. Through education, the youth continues to uphold strength and integrity in avoiding historical revision--which may have happened in regards to the topic of Martial Law. We are not putting the blame on you for the deadly mistake of your father, but it would have been more patriotic for you to acknowledge the torture and pain that our countrymen faced during those years. A president cares for the countrymen, and a president should not disregard the tremendous abuse of power done to them.

Thank you for taking the time to read my thoughts. I look forward to seeing the positive changes we all hope for.

Sincerely,
Kassandra Lianna A. Quelnan
